Founders can no longer wait until they’ve grown enough to automate – they must automate to grow. Startups now deal with rapidly rising customer expectations as they balance capital efficiency and runway.
So, we’re delivering the tools, support, and ecosystem connections they need to build world-class customer experiences. We have officially committed $100 million to the next generation of startups. As part of that commitment, startups can use the Zendesk Resolution Platform, including AI Agents, at no cost for up to two years through Zendesk for Startups.
Why early CX decisions shape startup outcomes
Most founders treat customer experience as something to be addressed once the company is larger. It feels reasonable – focus on product, growth, and the product-market fit, then address support infrastructure once the volume demands it.
But our data suggests this approach carries real risk. According to Zendesk's 2026 Startup CX Trends Report, 90% of startup leaders say customers will drop brands that cannot resolve issues on first contact.
Users today are demanding and do not adjust their expectations based on a company's size or stage. They measure every interaction against the best experience they have ever had, and they make quick decisions when that standard goes unmet.
"I joined Zendesk for a specific reason: the ecosystem. As a former founder, I have been in the trenches. I know what it costs when the foundation is not right early enough. This commitment is not a relaunch of a legacy program. It is a ground-up transformation of how we support the founders of the future."
— Denise Quashie, Senior Director, Global Startups Business, Zendesk
For founders, the cost of poor service is immediate and compounding. Landing a great customer can take months. Losing one takes far less time. In the early stages of growth, preventable churn is one of the most damaging forces a startup can face. Not only does it cost hard-earned revenue, but it reflects poorly to investors as well.
Today’s startups face new challenges
Today's startup market moves faster than ever before. Funding is concentrated into fewer, larger rounds, while AI has only made competition fiercer. To preserve this runway, founders must successfully retain paying customers while also preserving resources between rounds.
The most successful startups are the ones that adopt an AI-first approach to everything they do, including CX. Automated resolution, intelligent routing, and personalized responses across every channel are not enterprise-only capabilities anymore. They are the baseline for any startup serious about retention and growth.
AI agents now resolve more than 80% of routine customer interactions, and teams that use Zendesk AI save an average of 7.3 hours per week. For a lean startup team, this is not a minor efficiency improvement, it’s an automated CX teams.
Zendesk understands what founders need
We began as a startup ourselves, built on a kitchen door turned table in a Copenhagen loft. Over the years, we’ve watched Canva, ElevenLabs, and more than 50,000 other startups scale and grow on our platform.
That history shapes how we work with founders. We’re not here to simply be a provider, we are a partner who has watched successful startups scale, and designed this program around those lessons.
What the Zendesk for Startups program includes
Qualified startups receive up to two years of Zendesk at no cost. This is the longest no-cost commitment of any CX startup program currently available.
This is more than a program. It is a partnership designed from the ground up to meet founders where they are and grow with them. The benefits include:
More runway: Up to two years of Zendesk Suite Professional at no cost, so founders preserve capital while they build.
CX automation: Full access to AI Agents, Copilot, and App Builder, giving startups the tools to automate early and scale support without scaling headcount.
Velocity: VIP onboarding and implementation support, so startups go live quickly and see value from the start.
Support: Dedicated account support for the duration of the program, giving founders direct access to a team that understands their growth stage.
Community: A startup digital hub, exclusive events, founder sessions, AI workshops, bootcamps, and access to Zendesk executives and experts across the network.
Partner perks: Exclusive discounts from leading technology partners including AWS, GitHub, and Notion.
How this commitment extends to the broader startup ecosystem
Startups do not build alone. The venture capital firms, accelerators, and ecosystems behind them play a critical role in how founders make early infrastructure decisions. For the first time, the Zendesk for Startups program extends dedicated benefits to VC partners.
Through partnerships with a16z, Techstars, 500 Global, LvlUp Ventures, and others, Zendesk gives investors the tools to better support their portfolio companies. That includes closed-door AI sessions, quarterly portfolio reviews, and direct access to Zendesk executives. Through Zendesk Labs and Zendesk Ventures, the commitment goes further still, connecting Zendesk more deeply to the startup community for the long term.
The infrastructure decisions founders make today, about how to handle customer volume, how to deploy AI, and how to build trust at scale, will shape everything that follows. A strong foundation does not just improve the customer experience. It reduces churn, strengthens investor confidence, and creates a platform for growth that compounds over time.
What determines the eligibility for the full 2 years of no-cost access?
The Zendesk for Startups program supports founders at every stage of their growth journey. We accept startups from bootstrapped through Series B, up to 250 employees. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, we partner with startups so they can leverage the specific CX products and solutions they need most at any given time.
While all accepted startups get full access to Zendesk Suite, including AI agents and Copilot for six months, select milestones such as funding stages, team size, and strategic VC or accelerator partner affiliations help determine extended program benefits up to two years. Once approved, your account executive will work closely with you to tailor an offer that aligns with your current operational needs.
How does Zendesk support startups from onboarding through graduation?
We guide you every step of the way. You’ll get started with specialized onboarding and office hours to help you get setup and configured on the platform based on your needs.
